Proven before the first stake, not confirmed afterwards.
The declared date of birth is an input to be checked, never an answer. Age is proven from the document, against the floor the market sets, before money or free-play reaches the account.

Three things operators routinely get wrong here
The first is treating the age floor as a constant. It is a property of the market and of the product, and an operator running in several of them cannot carry one number across all of them.
The second is trusting the registration form. A date of birth typed into a field proves only that someone typed it; the obligation is to have proven it, and the proof is the document.
The third is scope. Several regimes extend the requirement past real-money play to free-play and demo products, on the straightforward logic that a teenager practising on your tester today is a customer you groomed.
Verified before, or it is not verification — it is reconciliation.
By market
Where the floor sits and what it applies to
| Market | Supervisor | Floor applied | Scope we enforce |
|---|---|---|---|
| United Kingdom | UKGC | 18 | Real money and free-play products |
| Germany | GGL | 18 | Real money |
| Italy | ADM | 18 | Real money |
| Spain | DGOJ | 18 | Real money |
| Portugal | SRIJ | 18 | Real money |
The floor is configured per market in your policy and versioned with it. We set the default from the market's own regime; you can raise it and never lower it below the regime's own floor.

Questions this check raises in integration
A returning player closed their account two years ago. Do we re-prove age?
Yes. A closed account is not a verified account, and the document that proved the age then may have expired since. Re-registration runs the full check; the previous evidence bundle stays retrievable but does not carry the new registration.
The document is genuine but the date of birth does not match what the player typed.
The document wins and the check returns review rather than pass. A mismatch of a single digit is usually a typing error and a reviewer will clear it in seconds, but it is recorded, because the alternative is silently overwriting a declared value with a scanned one.
Can we verify age without a document?
In some markets, against reference data, for some players. It is offered where it is reliable and it falls back to the document where it is not — which is most of the time for a player who has just moved, just turned eighteen, or has no credit history. The fallback is automatic and does not need a second integration.
